Quick answer
There are three practical ways to get from Beijing’s airports to the city center: the Airport Express train, ride-hailing via DiDi, or an official taxi. For most first-time visitors, the Airport Express is the fastest and most stress-free option.
Beijing’s airports
Beijing has two main airports:
- Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) — older, three terminals, closer to the city center
- Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) — newer, further south, served by the Daxing Express and inter-city rail
Check your ticket carefully — the two airports are far apart.
Option 1: Airport Express (recommended)
From Capital Airport (PEK), the Airport Express train runs to Dongzhimen and Sanyuanqiao stations, connecting to Lines 2 and 10 of the Beijing Metro. The journey takes about 20 minutes to Dongzhimen. Cost: around 25 CNY.
From Daxing Airport (PKX), the Daxing Airport Express connects to Caoqiao station (Line 10) and Beijing West Railway Station. Journey time is around 20–40 minutes depending on destination.
Option 2: DiDi (ride-hailing)
DiDi is China’s main ride-hailing app and works well from both airports. You will need a working phone number and a payment method set up before arrival. The app is available in English. Fares to central Beijing from Capital Airport are typically 80–150 CNY depending on traffic and car type.
Option 3: Official taxi
Official airport taxis are available at designated taxi queues outside each terminal. Fares to the city center range from 100–200 CNY. Make sure to use the official queue — avoid anyone approaching you inside the terminal offering rides.
What to avoid
- Unlicensed drivers who approach you in the arrivals hall
- Accepting rides from people who quote a flat price without a meter or app
